Do you love the gorgeous aroma of a scented candle in your home? I’m telling you to ditch the candles and home fragrances!
Scented candles release a category of chemicals called volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, which may have short-term and long-term negative health effects. The other side of the argument is that candles don’t release enough toxins to be worried…but why would you want any toxins when there is a healthier alternative?!
The same goes for air fresheners. Air fresheners can impact indoor air quality by adding potentially hazardous pollutants to the air (such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes).
If you have a really bad smell that you need to get rid of (although addressing the root cause of this is more important!), then you can use charcoal which absorbs odours.
